St. Valentine's Day Massacre         02/15/1929

On February 14, 1929, at a warehouse located at 2122 North Clark Street
Chicago, IL the most spectacular mob hit in gangland history took place, the
St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

Seven members of the Bugs Moran gang were waiting at the warehouse for a
truck of hijacked whiskey when a police car pulled up and five men got out.
Three were dressed in police uniforms.  A few moments later machine gun fire
broke the stillness of the snowy morning.   Moran correctly blamed Al
Capone.

This was perhaps the act that finally began the decline of Capone's criminal
empire. He had gone too far and the authorities, and even Capone's adoring
public, were ready to put an end to the bootleg wars.
