In 1837, Victoria became Queen at the age of
18.
Victoria married Prince Albert in 1840. His death in 1861, at the age of 42,
caused a deep depression. For the rest of her reign she wore black.
Victoria's reign lasted almost 64 years, the longest in British history.*
Queen Victoria's reign is considered the apex of the British Empire and is
referred to as the Victorian era.
