Constitutional Convention Approves Constitution

May-July, 1787 The Constitutional Convention debates the constitution behind closed doors in Philadelphia, PA

July 26, 1787 The Constitutional Convention appoints a ‘committee of detail’ to draft a written constitution and adjourned until August 6, 1787.

August, 1787 The Constitutional Convention, after review and debate of the draft, appoints a ‘committee of style’ to prepare a final version of the Constitution.

September 17, 1787 The Constitutional Convention votes in favor of the Constitution and submits it to the states for ratification.

June 21, 1788 New Hampshire becomes the 9th state to ratify the new constitution, making it the law of the land.
